Contact Admin. So, we booked our 1 night stay at Midas, thinking it was a good choice, since it was close to the ruins. To our surprise, when we arrived, we were told that we couldn't stay there since we booked only 1 night. We were also told that regardless of their availability, Hotels.
The staff at Midas assured us that their "sister" hotel was comparable to Midas and there was nothing we could do. We were also told that we couldn't receive a refund. Well their "sister" hotel was nothing short of a brothel. It was dirty, falling apart, and disgusting. There were people hanging out on the balcony looking excessively shady.
We returned to Midas and demanded that something be done to remedy this situation. There was NO way we were staying at Venus. We had been traveling all day and needless to say our patience was short. At this point, my husband went in to settle this matter. Shortly thereafter, Midas was calling around to find us a place to stay. We ended up at Cahal Pech for the night on Midas's dime, but the stress of it all was ridiculous. We booked 3 months in advance and neither Hotels.
Beware of 3rd party booking sites! My husband and I stayed at Midas four five nights after a very disappointing time at another hotel in Belize City. We were very happy to find that the staff was polite and eager to please.
We did not have electricity for at least two hours every night that we stayed at Midas, however it was not the fault of the resort. In fact, it was an experience that bought all those staying in the hotel together. Everyone came out of their rooms and talked by candle or flashlight. After reading the other reviews, I am happy to report that our room in the main hotel building had a bathroom door. Like others have reported, the walls are paper thin.
