Jefferson suggested to Judge Amy Messer that Heredia, 24, of Manchester, be evaluated in a secure psychiatric hospital with the results of that evaluation to be reviewed at an Aug.
Heredia and co-defendant Matthew Hugle, 25, of Manchester, are each charged with two counts of felonious sexual assault and three counts of intentional contribution to delinquency. Manchester police allege that on the evening of July 23, three teenage girls walked out of the Granite Pathways Youth Treatment Center, a facility for people with mental health issues and substance abuse disorders. At the arraignments for the two men, prosecutors allege the girls walked away from the treatment facility with the goal of going to a nearby 7-Eleven store, where they hoped to find someone to buy them alcohol, according to Manchester Ink.
Hugle arrived at the store and the girls got into his car. Then he picked up Heredia. They drove around plying the girls with alcohol, prosecutors allege. Two of the girls, ages 15 and 16, returned to Pathways and reported they had been sexually assaulted. One girl was naked and the other only partially clothed, but both were drunk, covered in vomit and upset.
