There are swingers' clubs which involve actual sex between presumably willing participants, and there are the sex shows Banana Bar, Casa Rosso , et al which are designed to separate you from your money rapidly without two or more people actually having sex.
You must remember that the Red Light area is a commercial district and like any other" entertainment" area as Arlosmom says, the purpose is to separate you from your money legally although some do lose money by other means. I suggest that before you enter such an establishment that you ask what you will see and keep a close eye on your wallet.
Both casa rosso and moulin rouge stage real live sex shows,,,you see everything,,,,and both also have audience participation,, if you want to that is..
I know this as ive been to both places whilst on a stag do If your planning on going with your partner then casa rosso is the one to go to If your in a group then moulin rouge is the one Both arent cheap thiugh.. By the time we got in We were all a bit worse for wear You definately see everything though and i do mean everything Stay away from banana bar.. This place is free to enter but you must buy the girls a drink Also the red light district is largely tourist oriented and not any less safe than the rest of Amsterdam But even so compared to other capital cities Amsterdam is like a quaint picturesqe village If youd like to have an experience of street crime visit London But every time I walk by Casa Rosso , especially when a tour bus has just let people off to stand in line, I get the same feeling as when I pass the Wax Museum.
I'd be more inclined to have a drink at the SamePlace, also somewhere I have never been. At least there you would see real people actually having fun. I guess a typical amsterdam sex show is like a bucket list type of thing that you could tell your friends you did. I have been to Cassa Rossa and Moulin Rouge , during a drunken evening with foreign friends. Not really worth to go again but if you have never seen other couples doing it, it can be interesting.
