I think now the dust has completely settled on those 8 brief, but very enjoyable comeback gigs, it's the probably right time to properly reflect on You Slut! Apologies for how long this has turned out to be. I don't think any of us would've imagined back in September - when we broke-up - that we'd end up playing a sold-out show at Koko less than two years later.
I know I definitely never envisaged such a scenario back in December when we played our first gig and the only one we ever planned to do at The Bless in Derby. P and were convinced to actually do more than one show. We did quite a few actually and from there we wrote and recorded a few songs that would end up being Critical Meat.
I know that during recording we didn't take it all that seriously. We spent a lot of it playing Pro Evo and drinking shit beer, and not doing much recording.
But somehow it's ended up being listened to all over the world! It blows my tiny mind that riffs like Roofio that I wrote in my tiny bedroom have been played in places like Venezuela. We ended up playing a Radio One session in as well as releasing the album in Japan. I think my personal biggest regret is the fact we never got to go out there and play it! Medium Bastard was definitely harder to write.
It took 6 fucking years. Following Critical Meat seemed very difficult, and I think it was during that time that we realised that we'd never do another album. We continued to sporadically gig and met, played and toured with some great bands! Touring Europe with Amusement Parks on Fire. The UK tour in with Maybeshewill and journeying around Ireland with Alright The Captain were some great times - even if we did come seconds away from dying in terrifying accident on the motorway.
