I stayed at floor 16, and next to my room was brothel suit with loud music, drunk people, and few night ladies! I was surprised for a five star hotel to let it happen, and to let these night ladies enter the hotel in the first place This hotel is overlooking a highway in Amman.
About 15 minutes walk is a shabby area with some local shops and restaurants. The lobby is very elegant and newly refurbished to a very high standard. Reception staff were helpful and and polite to us throughout our 3 night stay. The shock came when the lift opened to our floor. The smell of old carpets was all over the corridor and indeed inside the room. Furniture is very old, stained, scratched and over used.
The paint on the bathroom door already pealing off. To be fair, the room was clean yet it did not feel as such because of the stains and the worn out furniture. The mini bar was empty probably that is why they did not ask for a deposit. The breakfast buffet was really good with a well balanced variety of food. Restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly. I booked 2 deluxe connecting rooms for a one night stop along with my wife, noticing that it was classified as 5 stars.
Eve though the rooms were very spacious but their maintenance was very very poor. Bathroom walls and edges were dirty and filthy that made the showering a disgusting experience. Three of the sofas and desk chair were stained with food remains.
There were food menu to order room service. When called to ask for it, we were promised that within 10 minutes it would be brought. It was never brought. Next day morning breakfast, though having lots of items but tables were not clean, there paper napkins and service quality was far away from 5 stars. Cooked items were cold. In fews words, a terrible disappointment not expected from a 5 stars property.
