Beth C. Higuey We are going to visit Higuey for most of October and are interested in what this city has to offer and where to stay. Is there an open air market available? Are there any waterfalls nearby?

We've only got miles of white-sand, world-class beaches Playa Rincon is ranked by Conde-Nast Travel as the second prettiest beach in the world , coconut-covered mountains, lush arroyos that disguise themselves as rain-forests, a spectacular waterfall reached by horseback through the lush countryside, great diving with reefs easily reached from the beaches, Samana Bay - a prime estuary that is the winter home of humpback whales, Cayo Levantado - considered a "must-see and visit" by many Dominicans and foreign guests alike, a great marlin hole off Cape Samana if you like sportfishing ask me about this one , nightlife in many local salsa bars and discos, and in general, a great place for a family vacation far away from the crime and prostitution of other parts of the Dominican Republic.
For more information about this remote and boring place, click on the link below. Re: Higuey Beth, Higuey does not have much to offer. It is a commercial and provincial government center. The only thing of any interest is the basilica. You can see most of the city in a day. It does have an open air market area. Yet, you would have to be one of the locals to get any real appreciation of it. It is not a tourist area. There is a modest hotel in the city near the basilica, it is the Barcelo Hotel Naranjo.
Use the attached link. I don't know of any waterfalls in the area. I may add that the tourist and resort areas of Punta Cana and Bavaro are about thirty miles from Higuey. If I may suggest, if you are staying the the D. There are many wonderful people and places to see. Also, there are many kind contributors to this board that may be able to assist you more.
